A European Project, a First for ESTACA
For the first time, an ESTACA research team has been selected to receive European funding under the Horizon Europe program. The AMIGOS project (Active Mobility Innovations for Green and safe city sOlutionS) signed in June 2023 for 4 years, aims to improve safety and mobility in the city.
A Project Funded by the European Union
The AMIGOS project has been selected as part of the Horizon Europe program. This European Union framework program for research and innovation funds missions for an ecological, digital and healthy future for all, through European partnerships and international collaboration. Horizon Europe is an ambitious program with a budget of €95.5 billion for 2021-2027.
The project brings together 28 partners, including 5 major cities (Hamburg, Istambul, Madrid, Gabrovo, Lappeenranta, Reykjavik), follower cities such as Laval, Bologna or Gozo, as well as technology and university institutes (AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research or ITAINNOVA Aragon Institute of Technology) and companies such as Tree Technology, which provides information and communication technology solutions based on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence.
Using Digital Twins to Improve Urban Mobility
Initially, 10 towns will become pilot towns or experimental zones. Partner companies will offer a range of technical, urban and roadside solutions to improve safety and mobility. Observation of measured data and surveys will enable the creation of a digital twin model, i.e. a virtual model representing mobility flows, using data sent by sensors in real time to simulate different behaviors.
Teacher-researchers from ESTACA in Laval will be co-creating this digital model to identify the relevance of the methods used and determine whether the solutions can be replicated and subsequently applied to other partner cities.
