Arthur Descamps
Passionate about space and generally a fan of technology, I decided to spend a year in the United States, in Silicon Valley. My goal: the NASA Ames research center based in Mountain View, California, next to Google, LinkedIn, Mozilla and many others! After more than a year of research and many adventures, one of my leads finally came up trumps.
A few months of formalities later, here I am, in the nerve center of the planet!
The NASA Ames center is an impressive place where giant wind tunnels, capable of holding scale 1 airplanes and gigantic hangars, formerly intended for airships and now used for Google’s balloon pre-projects! I work in the Mission Design Center, which designs preliminary projects for space missions and earth studies. My main mission is to design a standard to carry experiments on the fleet of drones used by NASA. The rest of the time, I help design a space vehicle that can change the trajectory of asteroids that threaten to hit our planet.
My involvement with ESO (ESTACA Space Odyssey), my contacts through the USAIRE competition, my participation in the International Astronautical Congresses in Beijing and Toronto, all these experiences have allowed me to build a solid portfolio which, with perseverance and the support of those who believed in me, has enabled me to achieve my goal. Silicon Valley is a fascinating place, and I hope to have the opportunity to extend my experience here and come back to NASA for my final internship to further develop my projects. My longer term goal is to create a company and participate in the technological development of humanity!
